Identifying Excellent New Technologies in Marine and Fisheries, Supporting Market Entry

- Support for technology commercialization through marine and fisheries technology certification in the second half of 2024

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced certification of new technologies in marine and fisheries in the second half of 2024 to support early identification and market entry of excellent new technologies in marine and fisheries.

Since 2017, MOF has certified new technologies by evaluating the novelty, field applicability, and commercialization feasibility of newly developed or innovatively improved technologies in the marine and fisheries fields. As of 2023, a total of 117 new technologies have been certified. Companies that receive new technology certification are given the New Technology Certification Mark and assigned additional points screening for support, which includes R&D and start-up investment.

Companies wishing to apply for certification of new marine and fisheries technologies for the second half of 2024 can refer to the notice posted on the MOF website and apply through the Maritime and Fisheries Technology Evaluation System.

For reference, in the first half 2024, a total of 21 application technologies were reviewed and a total of 9 technologies in 7 fields* were certified. The leading case is an eco-friendly snow remover production technology that uses starfish to prevent concrete damage. This technology is expected to reduce the population of starfish, a harmful organism, preserve fisheries resources, and save winter road maintenance costs compared to existing snow removal agents.
