On March 2nd, Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries visited Incheon to award presidential appointment letters to the Korea Coast Guard commissioners newly appointed as of February 21st and inspected the current status of maritime security. The Korea Coast Guard Commission is an organization that consists of seven members with a three-year term of office that deliberates and makes decisions on revisions or amendments of relevant statues or major policies in line with the Coast Guard Affairs Act.

During the appointment ceremony, Minister Cho stressed that "the role of the coast guard commissioners is a critical factor in ensuring the Korean Coast Guard is trusted and supported by the people" and asked them to “conduct deliberations on major coast guard policies and provide advice for the benefit of the public.”
