Minister Cho Seung Hwan of Oceans and Fisheries attended the launching ceremony of the public interest foundation Embrace of the Ocean (바다의 품) on 24 February.

The ceremony was held to celebrate the establishment of the public-interest foundation Embrace of the Ocean, established by the voluntary contributions of the marine shipping sector. A total of 160 individuals from institutions and groups relating to shipping and fisheries attended the event. These included 20 shipping firms under the Korea Shipowners’ Association, such as HMM, Korea Marine Transport Company, and Sinokor Merchant Marine Company, as well as the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, Federation of Korean Seafarers' Unions, and Korea Ocean Business Corporation.

Embrace of the Ocean is a public-interest foundation established at the end of last December through the contributions of the shipping firms with the aim of enhancing the public role of the shipping sector, including the development of young seafarers, raising marine awareness among teenagers, and supporting the socially marginalized.
