On June 14, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries gave a lecture under the theme of “Maritime and Fisheries Strategies to Become a Global Pivotal State” to students of national security studies, including active military officers and senior government officials, at the National Security Graduate School, Korea National Defense University. In his lecture, Minister Kang explained the meaning of the Yoon administration’s national goal of becoming “a global pivotal state that contributes to freedom, peace, and prosperity” and the importance of oceans in allowing Korea’s leap forward as a global pivotal state. He also shared global challenges in the marine and fisheries sector, including maritime security, conservation of the marine environment, sustainable use of fisheries resources, and responses to climate change as well as Korea’s response strategies.
