The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries held a demonstration of fully automated stevedoring equipment at 11:00 AM on October 27th at the Busan New Port West Container Terminal to celebrate the completion of the Busan New Port West Container Terminal Phase 2-5 Project. The recently completed West Container 2-5 Phase Terminal is the first end-to-end automated port in Korea. The port prevents safety accidents and ensures productivity and operational efficiency through unmanned container automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and operation of automated systems. In addition, full automation spanning the inner quay walls, transport, and the storage yards provides the advantage of operating the port without interruptions in sudden emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, for having introduced KRW 340 billion in domestic stevedoring equipment, which resulted in an added value of KRW 211 billion and production uplift of KRW 641.7 billion, the West Container 2-5 Phase Terminal is regarded to have laid the foundation for the smart port industry of Korea.
