Permission to Operate Recreational Fishing Ponds Using Floating Fishing Places within Communal Fishing Grounds
- Amendment to the “Rules on the Designation and Management of Recreational Fish Ponds” and its proclamation on Tuesday, July 8
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it would be promulgating on Tuesday, July 8 an amendment to the Rules on the Designation and Management of Recreational Fishing Ponds to allow floating fishing places within recreational fishing ponds of communal fishing businesses. The amended Rules will take effect on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The previous Rules permitted only fishing places using cage culture or diked aquaculture ponds. This amendment expands the facilities of recreational fish ponds to allow fishing villages or district fisheries cooperatives to designate and operate recreational fish ponds using floating fishing places within licensed communal fishing grounds.
Following this system improvement, the Ministry plans to enact the Detailed Facility Standards for Floating Fishing Places (MOF Public Notice) to create a safe recreational fishing environment for users of floating fishing places and enforce it in line with the amended Rules.
“I hope that this system improvement provides citizens with various recreational fishing activities, enriches their lives, and injects new vitality into fishing villages. We will continue to identify regulatory improvement tasks to increase fishermen’s income and revitalize the fishing village tourism,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
