Experiencing a Cultural Event at Scenic Lighthouses

- Holding National Lighthouse Cultural Events during the 2nd Korea Lighthouse Week (June 27-July 6)

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that the 2nd Korea Lighthouse Week would be held from Friday, June 27 to Sunday, July 6 at 24 locations nationwide, including 12 lighthouses and National Lighthouse Museum.

The Korea Lighthouse Week is held to commemorate International Lighthouse Day (July 1) and inform the public of the importance of lighthouses for ship safety and their value as marine tourism resources. Various events related to lighthouses will be held nationwide.

Key events include: ▲a children’s and youth art contest themed “Lighthouses and Ocean”; ▲a lighthouse mural-painting experience at Busan’s Seoamhang Nambangpaje Lighthouse; and ▲a “One-Day Lighthouse Keeper” program at Incheon’s Palmido Lighthouse. A photo exhibition where anyone can enjoy the beautiful lighthouses will also be held in eight regions including Incheon, Ulsan, Sokcho, and Gunsan. People can find detailed information about hosting and participating in the event on the I LOVE LIGHTHOUSE & OCEAN website (www.lighthouse-museum.or.kr/sea).

“Lighthouses are symbols of hope that have illuminated the seas for a long time and are valuable marine assets that have supported our economic development. I ask for citizens’ interest and participation in the Lighthouse Week events that we have prepared to share their value with the public,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
