Rest in the Embrace of the Ocean—Marine Tourism as Part of Everyday Life
- Selection of the 9th Excellent Marine Tourism Product and KRW 160 Million Funding Support for Commercialization
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it had selected five excellent marine tourism products as a result of the 9th Excellent Marine Tourism Product Contest from March 12 to April 9.
This year’s contest selected "2-Day/1-Night Fishing Net Experience on Incheon's Treasure Islands: Deokjeokdo and Soyado,” “Sea-Stay: Long-Term Marine Travel Program for Foreign Tourists,” “The Island’s Gift of Slowness: Wido & Maldo Sound Walking,” "Mokpo Samhap: An Emotional Staycation,” and "Memorial Cruise: Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s Victory Route Yacht Tour.” These programs are expected to go on sale starting June.
A total of 63 products were received for this year’s contest, and the excellent marine tourism products that conform to the latest trends such as leisurely travel and local tourism—and which can contribute to revitalizing the local economy—were selected through the first round of document screening and second round of presentation screening.
MOF will provide KRW 30 million in funding support for the commercialization of the 5 excellent products (with an additional KRW 10 million for the most excellent product) and support for PR activities. It will also recruit a national SNS experience group to provide opportunities for experiencing and enjoying excellent marine tourism products.
“This is the first year of enforcement of the Marine Leisure Tourism Promotion Act, and we are pleased with the great interest shown by the marine leisure tourism industry for the contest. As diverse and attractive marine tourism products that highlight the characteristics of each region were selected, we hope that the public will enjoy leisure and pleasure at sea through these excellent marine tourism products,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
