Public Recruitment of Korean Candidate for the 2026 International Maritime Organization Gender Equality Award

- Selection and recommendation of a Korean candidate after the recruitment to be held until Friday, June 20

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it would publicly recruit a candidate to recommend for the 2026 IMO Gender Equality Award from Monday, June 2 to Friday, June 20.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has been operating the IMO Gender Equality Award since 2024 to promote gender equality policies in maritime fields including ship safety, marine environment protection, and maritime transport. An awards ceremony was held last Friday, May 16 in London, England where IMO is located, with the Gender Equality Award (presented to one individual) and commendations (awarded to five individuals) presented. From Korea, Professor Jeong Min of the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology received the Letter of Commendation.

Anyone working in domestic maritime-related organizations or industries is eligible to participate in the recruitment. Applicants can download the necessary documents from the MOF website (www.mof.go.kr) and complete and submit them.

MOF plans to select the final candidate through expert review based on the submitted documents and recommend the candidate to the IMO Secretariat in early July this year. IMO will review the candidates recommended by member states, with the IMO Council to approve the 2026 Gender Equality Award winner in November 2025.
