Providing non-face-to-face medical treatment and beauty and bathing services on remote islands including visiting medical services and labor and tax education to fishery villages

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it will sign an MOU with representatives of seven organizations including related public institutions, companies, and organizations at the Seoul Garden Hotel on Wednesday, March 26 to promote a fishery welfare bus project targeting fishermen from islands and fishing village areas.

The fishery welfare bus project will provide remote medical treatment and beauty and bathing services to fishermen from island areas who have difficulty traveling to the city, health management for occupational diseases, and labor and tax administration services to fishermen from fishing villages.

The parties signing the MOU include: MOF, which is responsible for overall project management; Rural-Urban Mutual Growth Fund as a cooperation foundation; HK inno.N, LG U+, Busan Port Authority (BPA), and Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Agency (FIPA) for fund contribution and in-kind support; Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) for consulting and project evaluation; and Korea Coastal Fishermen Association for project implementation.

“This fishery welfare bus project—where the private sector, public sector, and government joined forces to improve the quality of life of fishermen—is significant since the private and public sectors voluntarily participated in funding and operation. We will continue to examine carefully whether there is any blind spot for universal social welfare service, provide comprehensive support, and resolve everyday inconveniences to create fishing villages where people truly want to live,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
