HaeRoad App for Rescue in Emergency

Release of the updated version (8.0.0) of the HaeRoad app on Wednesday, March 12 with enhanced rescue request function

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced the release of an updated version (8.0.0) of the HaeRoad app with enhanced marine safety functions on Wednesday, March 12.

As a maritime safety app providing marine safety information such as ship approach alerts and weather updates, HaeRoad also provides quick rescue during an emergency by notifying rescue authorities (e.g., Coast Guard and Fire Department) of the exact location. With more than 680,000 copies downloaded since its launch in August 2014, the app has assisted in rescuing over 2,400 people, leading the way in ensuring safe maritime activities for users.

The latest update has enhanced the emergency rescue request function as the app's key feature. Added functions such as ▲one-touch emergency rescue request function, ▲function for requesting rescue by selecting an accident situation image for the hearing-impaired, and ▲function for sharing rescue request information (accident location, time, etc.) among app users in real time improve the ability of rescue organizations and nearby ships to secure the golden time for rescue, allowing rescue requests directly from the app icon without running the app.

Moreover, ▲marine weather information search function, ▲sunrise and sunset time information, and ▲tide table information were added, with the app’s speed and user-friendliness improved by ▲selectively displaying only information on major maritime areas such as water leisure activity-prohibited areas within a 50 km radius of the user.

Users of the previous versions of the HaeRoad app can update to the latest version (8.0.0) from the app markets (Play Store, App Store, and One Store).

“The HaeRoad app has played a major role in supporting people in carrying out safe maritime activities by saving more than 2,000 lives over the past 10 years. We will continue to reflect users’ opinions actively and strive to create a safer, more enjoyable ocean,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
