IMO, IALA and MOF jointly held capacity building workshop on maritime digitalization and decarbonization in Asia-Pacific region.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF, Minister MOON, Seong-Hyeok) organizes the Maritime Digital Capacity Building Workshop with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) to enhance the capabilities of developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region from November 9th (Tue) to 10th (Wed).

 

The Maritime Digital Capacity Building Workshop has been held since 2018 in cooperation with IMO and IALA to facilitate maritime digitalization and share the best practices with developing countries in maritime sectors

 

Fifteen countries in Asia-Pacific region joined the online workshop coordinated by Mr.Omar Frits Eriksson, deputy Secretary-General of IALA, and Mr. B.Sitki Ustaoglu, head of IMO Asia-Pacific Section.

 

At the workshop, MOF will introduce the SMART-Navigation services commercialized for the first time in the world and expand the scope of discussions on creating maritime digitalization cluster.

 

Hong Soon-bae, Director of MOF, says, "e-Navigaion is a revolutionary technology enabling to accomplish both goals of maritime safety and shipping efficiency at the same time as well as decarbonization through digitalization in maritime sectors, and Korea will continuously contribute to facilitate maritime digitalization and shared-growth in Asia-Pacific region."
