- Leading Digitalization of Maritime Industries –

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries(MOF; Minister MOON, Seong-Hyeok), Republic of Korea, announced that the Digital@Sea Asia-Pacific 2021 Conference(hereinafter, Digital@Sea AP 2021), which replaces former e-Navigation Underway Conference Asia Pacific(ENUW AP) from 2017 to 2020, is to virtually be held under the theme “Leading Digitalization of Maritime Industries”

This conference will be attended by over 500 participants from 40 countries in Europe, North America, and the Asia Pacific regions as well as from relevant organizations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), Comite International Radio Maritime (CIRM), Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), and Royal Institute of Navigation (RIN).

The conference has been playing a pivotal role as an international network to promote global cooperation of maritime digitalization world-wide since 2017.

This conference focuses on ①Maritime Digital Transformation for De-Carbonization; ②Maritime Digital Service Platform and Maritime Informatics; ③Standardization for the Emerging Maritime Digital Technologies; and ④Global Maritime Digital Cluster for Harmonization across the Regions.

Global Maritime Digital Cluster is a global testbed for verifying and validating the cutting-edge digital technologies applied to the container ships throughout their routes from departure to arrival seamlessly.

Concept of Global Maritime Digital Cluster

The technologies to be tested include e-Navigation, MASS, Cyber-Security, Digital Port, and Global Maritime Digital Platform.

“The world maritime community is anticipated to be connected through one network; the hyper-connective maritime digital era aims to create the values of co-prosperity for the humanity rather than for particular countries, and transform towards mutual growth rather than competition,” MOON, Seong-Hyeok, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, said. He also added “The conference is to establish the first step to jointly promote the 2D era, namely decarbonization and digitalization in global maritime sectors across Europe, North America, and the Asia Pacific regions through the clusters.”
