- The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries appoints Actress CHO, Yeo-Jeong as an ambassador for the export of Korean seafood -

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister MOON, Seong-Hyeok) appointed actress CHO, Yeo-Jeong as an honorary ambassador on July 29 (Thursday), for the export of Korean seafood. The Ministry announced that it aims to strengthen publicity activities in order to promote the excellence of Korean seafood and the value of the K-FISH* brand

* K-FISH: An ‘integrated brand for the export of Korean seafood’ certified by the Korean government for quality. The brand can only be given to a product after going through a strict screening and thorough quality control process.

As of July 23, this year's seafood export is estimated to be $1.45 billion USD, increased by 17.1% from that of last year. Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, which broke out in early 2020, the Korean seafood export market remained stagnant in 2020. Yet, thanks to the recent recovery of the global economy and trade, the seafood export presented the highest performance of all time.

In this regard, MOF plans to appoint actress CHO, Yeo-Jeong as an ambassador for the export of Korean seafood and strengthen promotional activities in order to continue the currently prosperous export trend and to further encourage exports.

CHO, Yeo-Jeong, appointed as Korea's seafood export ambassador, is a leading actress from the movie "Parasite," which swept major international film festivals including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 for the first time in the past 100-year history of Korean cinema. The actress is highly recognized both in Korean and international stages, and with her bright personality healthy ambience, she is expected to raise the international awareness on Korean seafood.

After the appointment ceremony on July 29^th (Thursday), Minister MOON, Seong-Hyeok introduced a number of excellent Korean seafood and KㆍFISH brands, along with the honorary ambassador CHO, Yeo-Jeong via conducting promotional photo shoots and videos to encourage the consumption of seafood.

Such promotional photos and videos introduce major export seafood products including seaweed, tuna, and fish cakes. The Ministry also plans to use the contents created to collaborate with major online and offline retail stores and franchise stores internationally and carry out various promotions to introduce Korean seafood and K-FISH brands.

Honorary Ambassador CHO, Yeo-Jeong stated, “With being an avid fan of seafood and healthy foods, I am very honored to have become an ambassador to introduce our Korean seafood and K‧FISH brand to the world.”

Minister MOON, Seong-Hyeok citied in his remark, “Following the promotion engaging the renown actress CHO, Yeo-Jeong, my Ministry expects to raise international awareness on Korean seafood. I sincerely hope that K‧FISH, just as K-pop and K-Drama, will establish itself as a seafood brand that could be enjoyed by people around the world and lead to further consumption of the exported Korean seafood.”
