- Starting 30th August (Wednesday): Joint government team to perform nationwide inspections of major seafood production and distribution sites -
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Cho Seung Hwan) has formed a joint inspection team with relevant institutions, including the Korea Coast Guard and local governments, to closely monitor and inspect the production and distribution practices of major seafood products, including sea salt, and plans to conduct two onsite inspections per week starting 30th August (Wednesday).
The first round of onsite inspections will be conducted on 30th August (Wednesday) at three locations: Shinnan, Jeolla-namdo and Tongyeong and Geoje in Gyeongsang-namdo. The joint inspection team plans to focus on the production and distribution trends, before-shipment storage and distribution history of major seafood products, including sea salt, sea mustard/kelp, dried seafood products (laver/yellow corvine/pollack/squid/anchovy), and pickled shrimp across the nation, including these three regions. Moreover, the team will encourage timely shipment and distribution of these products while focusing on resolving associated challenges and taking immediate actions to ensure stable market operations.
Prior to the joint inspections, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries hosted a joint inspection team meeting with members of related ministries at the Sejong government building on 28th August (Monday), at which they discussed effective joint inspection execution plans and cooperation plans among the related organizations to ensure stable distribution of seafood products. In addition, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to immediately conduct onsite inspections when reports are submitted to its Distribution Market Disruption Report Center.
