Establishment of the Women In Maritime Association Korea to Deliver Maritime Gender Equality

- Expected to play a major role in building both a domestic and international cooperation network among women in the maritime sector and develop maritime talent -

 

  The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister CHO Seung Hwan) announced that it has authorized the establishment of a non-profit corporation, Women In Maritime Association Korea (President Jo Sohyun, hereafter WIMA), on May 16th (Tuesday).

 

 

 WIMA Korea is a domestic group collaborating with its international counterpart, the Women In Maritime Association (WIMA) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), open to all female mariners working in the maritime sector in Korea.

 

 

 WIMA Korea, as a non-profit corporation under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea, plans to actively engage in activities to foster talented female seafarers and contribute to the development of the maritime sector, by providing career development opportunities and promoting specialized academic research. Furthermore, it plans to proactively interact and cooperate with other domestic and international organizations, such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Women In Maritime Association (WIMA).
