The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Chun Jae-soo) announced that it completed on Monday, October 27 the construction of Phase 2-1 Port Hinterland Complex spanning 1.134 million square meters to supplement logistics functions and strengthen the competitiveness of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port.
The construction of Phase 2-1 Port Hinterland Complex of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port began in 2016 as a pilot project to encourage the private development of the port hinterland complex. MOF selected Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Global as project executor through public offering, signed the execution agreement in 2017, and began construction in June 2021 after obtaining approval for the implementation plan. Zone 1 (462,000 ㎡) was completed in 2023, with the construction of Zone 2 (672,000 ㎡) completing the creation of the 113.4 million ㎡ Port Hinterland Complex.
The Ministry plans to have the project contractor use the developed hinterland complex directly or attract logistics and manufacturing companies through lease or sale. At least 711,100 ㎡ of the 1.134 million ㎡ complex will be used for complex logistics and manufacturing facilities, with 105,000 ㎡ to be provided for business and convenience facilities and the remaining 318,000 ㎡ to be used as road and green space.
“ Phase 2-1 Port Hinterland Complex of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port is the first pilot project developed with a private fund, demonstrating the creativity and technological capabilities of the private sector in contributing to increasing the added value of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port. We will continue attracting private development projects to address the insufficient logistics site in the region and revitalize the functions of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port and local economy,” said Nam Jae-heon, Director General of MOF’s Ports and Harbor Bureau.
