The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Chun Jae-soo) announced that it held the 2025 Korea Maritime Week at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul for 4 days from Monday, October 20 to Thursday, October 23.
This year's Maritime Week, which consisted of 15 events including high-level talks and international forum on advanced maritime mobility, was attended by approximately 1,700 key officials from governments, international organizations, and shipping and shipbuilding industries from 64 countries worldwide to present and discuss key maritime issues such as decarbonization, digitalization, and safety of the Arctic shipping route.
In particular, they discussed in-depth future cooperation issues such as ▲establishing reasonable IMO international standards for decarbonization, ▲developing eco-friendly and autonomous ship technology, ▲nurturing next-generation talent, and ▲securing the safety of the Arctic shipping route. It is expected to be the foundation for practical policymaking and cooperation between countries.
To build on these achievements further, MOF will hold the Commemoration Ceremony for the World Maritime Day jointly with IMO from October 26 to 27 next year. Next year's event will be attended by key figures from the 176 IMO member states, organizations, and industries, featuring presentations and discussions under the theme "From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence."
“The Korea Maritime Week and the Commemoration Ceremony for the World Maritime Day are a stage to strengthen international cooperation and showcase the strength of Korea’s shipping and shipbuilding industries to the world. We will make sure that the Commemoration Ceremony for the World Maritime Day next year will solidify our status as a shipping and shipbuilding powerhouse,” Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Chun Jae-soo said.
