The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Chun Jae-soo) announced that it would be holding an eco-friendly seafood certification PR event in Shanghai, China for two days from Saturday, September 6 to Sunday, 7.
The event aims to promote Korea's eco-friendly seafood certification schemes—organic* and antibiotic-free**—and to promote the sustainability and excellence of K-Seafood to the global market. The event has garnered high expectations as renowned Korean chefs and Michelin two- and three-star chefs from China, Japan, and Germany working in Shanghai are participating.
* (Organic seafood) Eco-friendly seafood produced using a method close to nature without using chemicals or antibiotics
** (Antibiotic-free seafood) Safe seafood produced with minimal use of antibiotics, in compliance with more than twice the legally required withdrawal period prior to distribution
The first day of the event, September 6, will feature international chefs demonstrating and presenting to the public a variety of seafood dishes using Korean seafood at a famous Korean restaurant in Shanghai. On September 7, renowned chefs from Korea and abroad including Chef Cho Hee-sook—a Korean cuisine master from South Korea—and Chef Ryu Tae-hyuk, who is leading the upscaling and modernization of Korean cuisine in Shanghai, will present a fine-dining course meal featuring eco-friendly aquatic products. The Ministry plans to demonstrate that Korea’s eco-friendly marine products are competitive enough to be used as ingredients in high-end cuisine.
“We aim to leverage this event as an opportunity to go beyond simply promoting Korean seafood products to introducing their premium brand value and sustainability to the global market. We will actively promote the value of eco-friendly K-Seafood on the international stage,” said Park Sung-jun, Director General of MOF’s Fisheries Infrastructure and Aquaculture Policy.
