Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Hwang Jong-woo attended the 2026 Future Strategy Symposium for Strengthening Inland Aquaculture Competitiveness in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do, on Thursday, September 10, to ensure that policies reflect the needs of the industry and hear fishers’ views on discussions about Korea joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Before the symposium, he held a roundtable with the inland aquaculture industry to exchange views on the CPTPP accession discussions. He also discussed challenges and recommendations with National Assembly member Kim Sun-kyo of the Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, the Korea Federation of Inland Aquaculture Organizations, and leaders of inland aquaculture organizations. After the event, he visited an aquaculture site to hear about the challenges facing the eel farming industry.
