The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), led by Minister Hwang Jong-woo, jointly held the Seventh National Women Fishers’ Convention and the Fifth Women Fishers’ Day ceremony at HW Convention Center in Seoul on Wednesday, September 9, with around 2,000 women fishers in attendance. This year’s event commemorated Women Fishers’ Day, an official observance on October 10, and the 10th anniversary of the Korea Women Fishers’ Federation. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the federation’s achievements over the past decade and reaffirm women fishers’ commitment to further progress. The federation has grown into a nationwide organization with 58 local chapters and around 8,600 members. It has contributed to fisheries and fishing village development by promoting women fishers’ participation in policymaking and protecting their rights, as well as undertaking public-interest activities such as promoting seafood consumption, conserving the marine environment, and serving local communities.
