The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Hwang Jong-woo), the Ministry of Employment and Labor (Minister Kim Young-hoon), the Korean National Police Agency (Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae-sung), and Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Mayor Min Hyung-bae) signed an MOU to protect salt farm workers’ labor rights at the Gwangju Government Complex on Thursday, July 30. After an assault and forced labor case involving salt farm workers in Yeonggwang in June, the agencies established a joint response mechanism and took firm action. The MOU institutionalizes this cooperation to eliminate violations of salt farm workers’ labor rights and foster a salt farming industry that respects human rights.
