The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be holding the 1st Fishermen’s Safety and Health Promotion Conference on Friday, June 5 at Samda Hall of the ICC Jeju. Held for the first time this year, the conference aims to promote the on-site implementation of fishermen’s safety and health policies and spread a safety culture. Approximately 100 participants including officials from MOF, Korea Maritime Safety and Security Agency, and related organizations as well as leaders of national fisheries associations and fishers are expected to attend. Nine exemplary vessel owners who have demonstrated outstanding compliance with onboard safety and health measures, risk assessments, and other vessel safety management systems will receive certificates and prize money at the event. Additionally, commendations will be awarded to contributors (three from the public sector, five from the private sector) for their efforts in advancing the safety and health of fishers. Among them, three outstanding vessel owners who receive the Minister’s Award will also share their safety management practices.
