Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Hwang Jong-woo visited the Incheon Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Bureau on Tuesday, April 14 to inspect the current status of fishing vessel safety management in the Incheon region, including the prevention of fishing vessel accidents. Minister Hwang first received updates on the current status of safety management, control of departures and location monitoring during weather advisories, and the accident response system, and commended the efforts of the staff working in the situation room year-round to manage fishing vessel safety. In particular, he noted that the ban on night navigation and fishing in the waters off Incheon and Gyeonggi was lifted for the first time in 44 years on March 1 this year as a result of cooperation among local fishermen and related agencies including Incheon City, Gyeonggi Province, and National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives. He emphasized the need to ensure seamless safety management and swift response to prevent any concerns arising from the resumption of night fishing operations.
