Recruiting Companies for Excellent Ship Management Service Provider Certification to Leap into the Global Market
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be accepting applications for Excellent Ship Management Service Provider Certification from Tuesday, September 1 to Wednesday, September 30.
The certification is a scheme* to select Korean ship management service providers as companies with excellent ship management capabilities, service, and quality under the Ship Management Industry Development Act. Fully implemented since 2021, it provides benefits such as reduced port facility use fees for foreign ships managed by certified companies.
* Certified Companies: POS SM (certified in 2021), G-Marine Service (2022), HMM Ocean Service (2023), KLCS SM (2024), and Wilhelmsen Ship Management (2025)
Companies seeking certification as an excellent ship management service provider may submit the required documents to the certification center—the Korea Maritime and Fisheries Training Institute—in person or by mail. Detailed information regarding eligibility and required documents is available in the Certification System Guidebook posted on the Korea Maritime and Fisheries Training Institute website (www.seaman.or.kr).
A certification review team composed of experts in the shipping and ship inspection sectors will conduct document reviews and on-site assessments of applicant companies and grant the Excellent Ship Management Service Provider certification to one final company at the end of the year following deliberation by the Certification Review Committee.

We look forward to seeing capable service providers with strong growth potential participate in the program and demonstrate their competitiveness in the global market,” said Kim Hye-jeong, Director General of Shipping and Logistics at MOF.
