Inspection of Subcontract and Wage Payments at Port and Coastal Maintenance Construction Sites Ahead of Chuseok
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it will inspect whether subcontract payments and workers' wages are being paid properly at 75 port and coastal maintenance construction sites nationwide for two weeks from Monday, August 31 to Friday, September 11, ahead of Chuseok, and encourage timely payment.
MOF will inspect whether prime contractors at port and coastal maintenance sites have properly issued payment guarantees to subcontractors and whether subcontract payments and payments for materials and equipment have been made to subcontractors within the deadlines stipulated by the relevant regulations.
In particular, MOF plans to focus on checking whether workers' wages are paid at least once a month on the designated date in accordance with the Labor Standards Act.
“Ahead of Chuseok, we will check that subcontract payments and workers’ wages are being paid properly at port and coastal maintenance construction sites. We hope these efforts will help construction workers enjoy the holiday with greater peace of mind,” said Gong Du-pyo, Director General of the Port Bureau at MOF.
