Preparing the Integrated Defense of Incheon Port Like a Real Battle
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be conducting the Integrated Defense Training and Damage Recovery Drill for Incheon Port as part of the Ulchi Exercise at Incheon Port starting at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 20.
This drill is being conducted jointly by civilian, government, military, and police forces at Incheon Port—a critical national facility—under the assumption of a complex terrorist attack, in response to the rapidly changing security environment. It was organized to strengthen emergency response capabilities and cement the emergency response cooperation system among the relevant agencies.
The drill is conducted under the assumption of various complex terrorist scenarios starting with a response to the paralysis of the logistics system caused by cyber terrorism, followed by ▲response to a hostage attack and explosive planting at an international passenger terminal, ▲restoration of critical port facilities damaged by missile attacks, ▲rescue of hostages from seized civilian vessels, and ▲restoration of port facilities damaged by swarm drone and unmanned aerial vehicle attacks.
Approximately 230 civilian, government, military, and police personnel from 22 related organizations including the Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries, Incheon Port Authority, and 17th Infantry Division of the ROK Army are scheduled to participate in this training. Actual equipment such as helicopters, ships, drones, fire trucks, and anti-aircraft missiles will be deployed to recreate a realistic combat situation.
