Turning Jellyfish into Eco-Friendly High-Performance Carbon Materials!
- 9 New Excellent Technologies (NET) Certified in H1 2026; 2 NET-applied Products & Facilities Selected

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it certified a total of nine New Excellent Technologies (NET) in the marine and fisheries sector during the first half of 2026, while also selecting one NET-applied product and one NET-applied facility.

Since 2017 through the first half of 2026, the Ministry has designated a total of 167 marine and fisheries new technologies. It continues to support certified companies by awarding additional evaluation points when they apply for marine and fisheries R&D programs and startup investment support. Furthermore, since establishing the NET-applied product and facility evaluation system last year, NET-applied products are granted eligibility for optional (private) contracts in public procurement. For NET-applied facilities, up to 4 additional points are awarded based on their track record of utilizing new technologies when bidding on public contracts.

This year, a total of nine new technologies were selected, including four technologies developed through marine and fisheries R&D projects:

Jellyfish-derived functional carbon material manufacturing technology (shortens production processes compared to conventional carbon and exhibits superior electrical conductivity);

High-pressure oxygen chamber equipped with a variable environment control valve (minimizes inspiratory and expiratory resistance* to reduce breathing effort);

Eye health functional food raw material production technology derived from marine microalgae (improves dry eye symptoms and reduces costs);

Multi-layer simultaneous water temperature observation buoy system (enables high-precision water temperature measurement).

Additionally, the Eco-friendly Cool Arm Sleeves based on Marine Waste Upcycling was selected as a NET-applied product, and the Steel Pipe Pile Construction using the V.R.D. (Vibro Rotation Drill) Method was selected as a NET-applied facility.

* Inspiratory/Expiratory Resistance: The sensation of resistance experienced during breathing by a patient wearing respiratory support equipment.
* V.R.D. Method: A technology that simultaneously performs steel pipe pile drilling and vertical vibratory driving during the construction of bridge foundations, port pier trestles, continuous earth-retaining steel pipe walls, and large-diameter cast-in-place piles.

Yoo Eun-won, Director General for Marine Policy at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, said, "The NET certification system serves as a crucial stepping stone that connects outstanding R&D achievements directly to industrial fields." She added, "We will continue to support promising marine and fisheries companies so that they can successfully expand their sales channels and establish a firm foothold in the market."
