Holding the 1st Korea National Fishing Port and Fishing Village Photo Contest
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be holding the 1st Korea National Fishing Ports and Fishing Villages Photo Contest from Friday, July 31 to Friday, October 23, integrating the existing National Fishing Port Photo Contest and the Alive Fishing Village Photo Contest to highlight the shared value of national fishing ports and fishing villages.
National fishing ports serve as hubs for fisheries production and logistics as well as spaces where marine tourism and leisure activities coexist, while fishing villages are living environments in the hinterland where life and culture continue. As such, fishing ports and fishing villages form an integrated living area where functions, spaces, and people are organically connected. This competition focuses on naturally capturing the value of these two spaces.
The contest invites entries in the categories of △national fishing port landscapes, △fishing village landscapes, and △people under the theme “Beautiful scenery of national fishing ports, daily life of fishing villages, and lively residents.”
Anyone who loves the sea (including registered foreign residents) is eligible to participate in the contest. Entries are not limited to high-resolution photos taken with a camera, as photos taken with a smartphone or other devices are also welcome. Entries for the National Fishing Port Landscape category must feature at least one of the 115 national fishing ports nationwide as background, and must include the location information of the actual shooting site and the date and time of shooting when submitting. The winning entries will be announced on Friday, November 27 following expert evaluation and public vote, and will be showcased to the public through an online photo exhibition from Tuesday, December 1 through Thursday, December 24. They will also be used for future promotional activities related to national fishing ports and fishing villages. Winners will be awarded prize money along with certificates, such as the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award.

“We expect this contest to be an opportunity to widely promote the charms of Korean fishing ports and fishing villages to the public, allowing them to feel more familiar with these communities. We ask for your active interest and participation,” said Park Seung-jun, Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture Policy at MOF.
