Experience Cultural Events at the 120-Year-Old Yeongdo Lighthouse
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be holding the 3rd Korea Lighthouse Week event from Wednesday, July 1 to Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in Busan, including Yeongdo Lighthouse, which was selected as the 2026 Lighthouse of the Year.
Korea Lighthouse Week is an event commemorating World Lighthouse Day (July 1) as designated by the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA). A variety of lighthouse-related cultural events will be held to highlight the importance of lighthouses in ensuring vessel safety and to promote their value widely as marine tourism resources to the public.
*1st Lighthouse Week (Jumunjin Lighthouse in Gangwon) and 2nd Lighthouse Week (Sanji Lighthouse in Jeju)
A wide range of participatory programs will be available this year, including ▲ lighthouse bus and yacht tours exploring Busan's lighthouses, ▲ temporary opening of Yeongdo Lighthouse, which is usually not open to the public, ▲ lighthouse treasure hunt, ▲ water gun play and bubble performances for children, and ▲ lighthouse school and smartphone photography classes.
In addition, visitors to nine lighthouse marine cultural spaces outside Busan who participate in an augmented reality (AR) stamp tour during Lighthouse Week will receive a commemorative gift. Beautiful lighthouse photo exhibitions will also be held at seven locations, including selected lighthouses and passenger terminal facilities.

"Lighthouses have long been symbols that safeguard the sea and drive the development of marine culture and tourism. We ask for your great interest and participation in the Lighthouse Week event, which we have prepared to share the value of lighthouses with the public," said Lee Su-ho, Director-General of Maritime Safety and Security at MOF.
