Lighter Shopping Basket, More Bountiful Table! June Seafood Discount Events
- Carrying out the Onnuri Gift Certificate refund event to ease the public’s perceived price inflation (June 10 – 14)
- Special discount events at 56 supermarkets and online malls nationwide in June (June 17 – July 5)

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that it would be holding various seafood discount events in June, ease the burden of rising grocery prices caused by the situation in the Middle East, and boost consumption of seasonal summer seafood.

First, the Seafood Onnuri Gift Certificate refund event will be held at 252 traditional markets from Wednesday, June 10 to Sunday, June 14. People who purchased domestic seafood at a participating traditional market can bring their receipt and either their mobile phone or ID to the refund booth in the market. Following a simple identity verification, they can receive up to KRW 20,000 in Onnuri Gift Certificates depending on the purchase amount*.
* Purchase amount of KRW 34,000 KRW or more but less than KRW 67,000 → KRW 10,000 refund / KRW 67,000 or more → KRW 20,000 refund

In addition, the June Special Seafood Sale will run for 19 days from Wednesday, June 17 to Sunday, July 5 at 56 sales outlets nationwide* including supermarkets and online stores, allowing consumers to purchase seafood at up to 50% off. Discounted items include not only key price-stabilizing seafood such as popular fish species (Alaskan pollock, mackerel, hairtail, squid, small yellow croaker, and dried anchovies) and laver but also highly sought-after summer health foods like abalone and eel. Detailed information regarding the event venues, dates, and more can be found on the official website of the Korea Fisheries Fair (www.fsale.kr).
* Participating businesses: 24 offline locations (5 hypermarkets, 19 medium/small stores), 32 online locations

“We will closely monitor price trends and mobilize all available policy measures to minimize the burden on grocery prices, ensuring that there is no instability in the supply and demand of seafood due to the situation in the Middle East or high water temperatures. I hope everyone has a healthy summer with delicious and nutritious seasonal seafood,” MOF Minister Hwang Jong-woo said.
