Youthful Island Trip to the Sea: “Badaro” Travel Pass Go on Sale Starting June
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Hwang Jong-woo) announced that sales of Badaro—a discount pass for coastal passenger ferries—will go on sale starting June 1 this year.
Badaro allows domestic and international young travelers aged 35 and under to travel to Korean seas and islands at an affordable cost. This year, tickets will go on sale at KRW 7,900 each from June 1. Anyone with a Badaro pass can use 53 participating passenger ferries at up to 50% discounted fares* until May 31 of next year. In particular, those aged 25 or below can purchase a Family Pass that covers up to 5 people including the purchaser.
* Available for up to 12 trips; up to 50% discount on weekdays and up to 20% discount on weekends (discounts vary by ferry company, so prior confirmation is required), not available during special holiday travel periods for coastal passenger ferries such as major holiday seasons
For example, if a family of four (two parents and two teenagers) travels by ferry from Mokpo to Jeju on a weekday, the regular round-trip fare would be approximately KRW 560,000*. With the Family Discount Pass, however, the trip would cost about KRW 290,000** or roughly half the price; thus significantly easing the economic burden.
* Based on multi-person berths: Adult round trip 147,000 KRW x 2 people, teenagers round trip 133,800 KRW x 2 people

“The coastal passenger ferry industry is facing increasing management burdens due to recent fuel cost increases. We hope that the Badaro Passes will revitalize the use of coastal passenger ferries and breathe new life into the island economies,” said Kim Hye-jeong, Director General of Shipping and Logistics at MOF.
