‘Create Your Own Lighthouse and Sea Masterpiece’,
Lighthouse Marine Culture Contest Announced
- Accepting entries from March 24 to May 18 in photography, painting, and children’s poetry themed on lighthouses and the sea


  The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Institute of Aids to Navigation announced that they will host the “Lighthouse Marine Culture Contest,” inviting submissions of photographs, paintings, and children’s poetry related to lighthouses from Tuesday, March 24 to Monday, May 18.

  Since 2013, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has held lighthouse-themed content contests to shed new light on the value of lighthouses and to raise public interest. This year, a new children’s poetry category has been added, and entries will be accepted in three categories: photography, painting, and children’s poetry.

  Those wishing to participate may submit works themed on lighthouses and the sea. The maximum number of submissions per person is five photographs, two paintings, and three poems. Detailed information, including eligibility*, can be found on the contest website (등대공모전.com) and the Lighthouse and Sea website (lighthouse-museum.or.kr/sea/main).

    * Eligibility: Photography (open to all), Painting (elementary, middle, and high school students), Children’s poetry (elementary school students)

  Winners* are scheduled to be announced on Friday, June 26. Grand Prize winners in the photography and painting categories will receive the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award along with prize money (KRW 3 million for photography and KRW 1 million for painting), while the Grand Prize winner in the children’s poetry category will receive the President of Korea Institute of Aids to Navigation Award and a prize of KRW 500,000.

  The winning entries will be featured in various promotional materials, including a collection of works and calendars, and will also be exhibited at the National Lighthouse Museum. In addition, the award-winning works will be available for viewing on the Lighthouse and Sea website.

  Kim Hyung-jun, Director of the Navigation Information Policy Division at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, stated, “Through this contest, we hope to discover and widely promote diverse content that captures the value and stories of lighthouses and the sea.” He added, “We will continue to pursue a range of policies and events centered on lighthouses so that the public can feel closer to lighthouses and the sea.”
