KRW 40 Billion in Support for 20 Promising Companies Over 2 Years for a “Full-scale AI Transition in the Marine and Fisheries Sector”
- Call for proposals supporting the ‘rapid commercialization of AI application products’

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Acting Minister Kim Sungbum) and the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion (KIMST; President Jeon Jae-woo) announced that they will implement the Support for Rapid Commercialization of Marine and Fisheries AI Application Products project to expand the market by applying AI technology in the field and supporting promising companies in the marine and fisheries sector.

This project will support the development and commercialization of products and services that can deliver results within 1 to 2 years by leveraging AI technology in the marine and fisheries sector, and will provide a total of KRW 40 billion to 20 projects over 2 years.

MOF plans to divide the support into 7* areas based on the project content and provide support in two types: 5 projects receiving KRW 2 billion over 1 year and 15 projects receiving KRW 1 billion annually for 2 years. The supported companies will also cover at least 30% of the total project cost with private contributions.

In addition, the project management organization will be limited to domestic companies that directly develop (manufactures) products and services to maximize the industrial ripple effects. Universities, research institutions, and public institutions may participate by forming a consultative body with the project management organization.

As the designated implementing agency for this project, KIMST will manage the entire process from project selection and evaluation to progress management and cost settlement while also planning follow-up projects to disseminate the final outcomes.

The call for proposals for the project will run for 30 days from March 19 to April 20, and interested parties can visit the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries website (www.mof.go.kr) and the Badabom website (badabom.go.kr) for details regarding the support content, application methods, and eligibility.

MOF has been promoting this project by holding briefing sessions on marine and fisheries startup and investment support programs in major regions including the Seoul metropolitan area, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. Even after the announcement, the Ministry plans to continue communicating with private-sector companies and related organizations interested in participating in the project through online and offline briefing sessions.

We look forward to the active participation of capable companies that can enhance the competitiveness of the marine and fisheries industry,” said Seo Jeong-ho, Deputy Minister for Marine Policy at MOF.
