The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it would be holding a meeting with the seafood export industry in Seoul on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, to hear about the difficulties faced by the industry following the situation in the Middle East.
This meeting will be attended by six exporters of major seafood products for the Middle Eastern market such as gim (dried laver), crab, fish cake, and flounder as well as five export support organizations including the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, and Korea Fisheries Trade Association. The meeting aims to listen closely to the difficulties faced by Korean seafood exporters following the situation in the Middle East and to discuss measures to minimize potential impact.
In addition, MOF will request that each organization participating in the meeting maintain a robust information-sharing and collaboration system and will urge export support organizations to respond actively to provide prompt assistance in the event of impact or difficulties experienced by exporters.
“As the current situation in the Middle East has increased uncertainty in foreign trade, it is important to identify quickly the difficulties faced by the seafood export industry and establish a preemptive response system. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will continue to communicate closely with the export industry and make continuous efforts to minimize the impact on our seafood export industry,” said Yang Young-jin, Director General of Fisheries Policy at MOF.
