- Holding the 10th Contest of Excellent Marine Tourism Products from March 3 to April 15

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) announced that it would be holding the 10th Contest of Excellent Marine Tourism Products from Friday, March 6 to Wednesday, April 15 to foster new marine leisure industries and revitalize the local economy.
Now in its 10th year, this contest is designed to discover experiential and residential marine tourism products that can help revitalize the local economy. Last year, marine tourism products highlighting local characteristics garnered attention, including a storytelling yacht tour program connecting Yeosu and Tongyeong along Admiral Yi Sun-sin's victorious sea routes and a sound walking program that lets visitors experience the natural sounds of the island while walking.
This year's contest is divided into two categories: one-night, two-day accommodation-type tourism products that can be operated all year round such as islands, uninhabited islands, beaches, fishing villages, marine leisure, and ecological experiences, and; a marine leisure tourism experiential content that focuses on experiences and activities such as cruise ships, yachts, fishing, marine cable cars, and leisure sports. Any business operator that develops and sells marine tourism products or marine leisure tourism experiential content—or plans to sell them—can apply.
MOF plans to finalize the selection of two accommodation-type tourism products and five marine leisure tourism experiential contents from among the submitted products and contents based on criteria such as specificity of the operation plan, sustainability, originality, and contribution to the local economy, following document and presentation evaluations. In particular, businesses linked to the marina industry and coastal cruises, products utilizing marine healing resources, products that can be experienced all year-round, and products that collaborate with local fishing villages will be given extra points.
The selected products and contents will each receive commercialization support fund of approximately KRW 25 million, voucher, and PR and sales channel development support. Anyone interested in detailed information regarding the event can visit the Korea Ocean Foundation website (ocean.or.kr).
“It is important for marine tourism to develop into residential tourism that goes beyond a simple visit and leads to stay and consumption. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will continue to discover competitive marine tourism products that coexist with the region and revitalize the coastal regional economy through on-site support and cooperation,” said Seong Jeong-ho, Director General of Marine Policy Office at MOF.
