Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Hold 10th OOC Briefing Session for Diplomatic Envoys to Korea
-Sharing and promoting the seamless preparation of the 10th OOC
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Kang Do-hyung) announced that it would hold a briefing session about the 10th Our Ocean Conference (OOC) to the invited diplomatic envoys to Korea on Monday, February 24 at the Korea Press Center in Seoul.
Minister Kang Do-hyung will explain the status of OOC preparations, describe the content, and conduct a Q&A session for approximately 60 diplomatic envoys including ambassadors to Korea from Italy, Belgium, Senegal, and the Philippines.
OOC is a high-level international conference where international cooperation on maritime issues is discussed and various maritime organizations such as governments, international organizations, and global NGOs announce voluntary pledges. The 10th OOC will be held in Busan, Korea for three days from Monday, April 28 to Wednesday, April 30.
MOF disclosed "Our Ocean, Our Action" as the slogan of the 10th OOC to induce practical participation and efforts from OOC participants in solving global maritime issues. Moreover, in addition to six primary themes of OOC—Marine Protected Areas, Blue Economy, Climate Change, Sustainable Fisheries, Marine Pollution, and Maritime Security—MOF proposed Digital Oceans as the host country’s special theme to discuss ways of utilizing digital technologies intensively to find a breakthrough in the challenge facing the maritime sector.
MOF disclosed its plan to capitalize on Korea’s strengths as a leader in shipping, shipbuilding, and digital technologies by hosting various special events including the Digital Business Summit on Shipping, Shipbuilding, and Maritime to foster collaboration and exchange between global maritime leaders and marine industry stakeholders.
Meanwhile, as this year’s APEC chair, Korea will host various ministerial-level meetings including the 5th APEC Ocean-Related Ministerial Meeting. MOF plans to hold the OOC and APEC Ocean-Related Ministerial Meeting* in succession to maximize synergies and ensure comprehensive discussions on global maritime issues by bringing together high-level maritime leaders.

The 10th OOC is expected to gather around 2,000 international participants including heads of state, high-level government officials, international organizations, global NGOs, and businesses. In particular, many senior officials from APEC member countries are expected to attend.
“We will ensure that the 10th OOC can become a platform for global maritime stakeholders to discuss pressing maritime issues and take concrete actions based on these discussions. I ask for the public’s interest and support for this major international maritime conference hosted in Korea,” Minister Kang Do-hyung said.
