The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Chun Jae-soo) announced that it would be holding the 2025 Korea Maritime Week at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul for 4 days from Monday, October 20 to Thursday, October 23.
Launched in 2007 as the Seoul International Maritime Forum, the Korea Maritime Week is now in its 19th year, having established itself as a leading international maritime event where responses to key issues in the international maritime field and international cooperation plans are discussed.
This year's Korea Maritime Week will focus on decarbonization, digitalization, and safety of the Arctic shipping route as key topics under the theme "The Beginning of Change: New Opportunities, New Seas."
The event is expected to be attended by ministers and heads of foreign governments and international organizations such as the Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs and Islands Policy, Secretary General of the International Aids to Navigation Organization (IALA), and International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), as well as ambassadors of the European Union (EU) and Norway to Korea including key figures from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and related organizations.
▲A high-level dialogue will be held to share insights and expertise among global maritime leaders on current international maritime issues on the opening day, October 20. It will be followed by a series of 15 specialized conferences and forums, including: ▲ Advanced Ocean Mobility International Forum, which will discuss cutting-edge marine mobility technologies and policies; ▲ Asia-Pacific Ocean Digital International Conference, which will focus on digitalization in the maritime sector; and ▲ Decarbonization Forum, which addresses the establishment of green shipping routes and eco-friendly strategies beginning October 21.
“Current issues faced by the international maritime sector, such as decarbonization and digital transformation, are challenges that require fundamental change in the maritime industry while also presenting opportunities to lead new technologies and markets. I hope that this Korea Maritime Week will serve as a meaningful opportunity to discuss these challenges and opportunities with the international community and draw a blueprint for the future of the maritime industry,” Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Chun Jae-soo said.
