- Hosting the Korea Seafood Expo–February Special Discount Event from February 9th (Thursday) -

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (Minister CHO Seung-Hwan) will be hosting the Korea Seafood Expo – February Special Discount Event for 18 days from February 9th until 26th to relieve the burden imposed on the public by rising consumer prices.

Korea Seafood Expo is an event that offers consumers up to 50% discounts on seafood purchases from large supermarkets and online malls. The February Special Discount will include all-time popular dishes—including pollack, mackerel, and squid, as well as a diverse range of seasonal delicacies, including octopus, sea squirt, and common raw fish species of flatfish and rockfish.

14 offline retailers, including Emart, Lotte Mart, Homeplus, GS Retail, Suhyup Sea Mart, NH Hanaro Mart, and Woori Mart, as well as 26 online shopping malls, including Korea Post Shopping, Market Kurly, Coupang, and Suhyup Shopping, are planning to participate in the upcoming event. The Ministry support for disocunts of up to 20% per person, capped at a maximum of KRW 10,000 per purchase. Nonetheless, consumers can enjoy the benefit of saving up to 50% off nominal prices, based on the additional seller-funded discounts. More details, including a list of sellers taking part in the discount event, can be found on the official event website (www.fsale.kr).

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, in collaboration with relevant institutions, including consumer groups, plans to thoroughly supervise the discount benefits enjoyed by the consumers by checking the before and after prices of products.

Director Goo Do-Hyung, the Head of the Distribution Policy Division at MOF explained, “consumer prices for seafood products continue to rise due to slowed domestic production and reduced supply. Thus, the Ministry prepared the February Special Event to lessen the pressure on consumer wallets in their seafood shopping despite overall inflation in the market” and hoped that the “event will help alleviate the burden of food prices on the public.”
