The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF; Minister Chun Jae-soo) announced that it held the 19th World Ocean Forum (World Ocean Forum 2025) at Lotte Hotel in Busan from October 22 to October 24 in cooperation with Busan Metropolitan City and Busan Ilbo.
Themed ”Beyond a Wave of Uncertainty,” the forum began with a keynote speech by President Yeom Jae-ho of Taejae University—an expert in artificial intelligence—and Martin Koehring, the former Chairman of the World Ocean Summit and a marine futurist, and featured 13 sessions.
The full event video, featuring presentations and discussions by domestic and international experts in marine bio, fisheries, shipping & ports, and shipbuilding, is available on YouTube (youtube.com/@WorldOceanForum).
Now in its 19th edition this year, the World Ocean Forum is a platform where domestic and international figures from the academe, industry, and public sector gather to discuss critical maritime issues and explore solutions. Over the past 18 years, it has established itself as Korea's premier international maritime academic event, attracting participation from more than 67,000 attendees including 987 speakers from 51 countries.
"In this era of climate crisis and global geopolitical instability, hyper-uncertainty is a highly pertinent theme. I hope this forum will provide everyone with valuable ideas and wisdom to navigate this age of uncertainty," said Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Chun Jae-soo in his welcome address.
