MOF(Minister Moon Seong-Hyeok) announced that it signed “Korea-Vietnam MOU on seafarer training” with Vietnamese Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The on 27 November (Wed), during the 1st Korea-Mekong Summit.

The MOU mainly consists of ▲ transfer of ships/equipments for seafarer on-the-job training ▲ exchange of technology/experience/information for maritime affairs/seafarers education ▲experts/trainee exchange, joint study and training. In particular, the MOU includes ODA project* on free transfer of Vessel HANNARA(3,640ton, built in 1993), training ship of Korea Maritime and Oceans University, which was requested by the Vietnamese summit during the Korea-Vietnam Summit meeting on March 2018.

* 2020 government budget(draft): 27,69million KRW(Basic inspection, repair, painting, education/training, work take-over etc)

The Minister invited the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Busan Port and its Distriparks on 25 November (Mon) during the ROK-ASEAN Special Summit, where the Minister himself guided the Prime Minister around, and requested Vietnam’s cooperation to support Korean companies’ participation in Vietnam’s Lach Huyen New Port Development Project.

* Discussion underway between MOF-(Vietnam)Ministry of Transport, Korean Consortium-Vinaline (Vietnamese state company that got business license approval from Prime Minister’s Office for Lach Huyen Port)

Also, Minister Moon proposed the two countries create Korea-Vietnam high-level joint ocean committee and hold regular meeting in order to discuss comprehensive areas of oceans and fisheries.

MOF Minister Moon Seong-Hyeok said “he expects that the MOU, signed on the margins of ROK-ASEAN Special Summit, can improve practical cooperation between the two countries in the fields of maritime affairs, shipping and ports.”
