On March 27th (Wednesday), Minister Kang Do-Hyung of Oceans and Fisheries took on the role of a Neulbom School (after-school public care program) one-day teacher at Wondong Elementary School in Incheon under the theme of “Marine life in need of our protection and what we can do to help.” Neulbom School is a weekday program that provides care to students at school in the early morning before regular classes begin and after regular class hours until the desired time (up to 8 PM). After a nationwide pilot in the first semester of 2024, the program will be rolled out to all first graders from the second semester. Under this framework, students are provided with free-of-charge play time involving arts, sports, and other psychological and emotional programs that can help them adapt to school life. Minister Kang engaged with the first graders at Wondong Elementary by sharing practical ways to protect the sea and sea life, including protected marine species like southern bottlenose dolphins and spotted seals, drawing sea creatures, and going through experience-driven marine environment content. On the same day, Minister Kang presented the school with seven books on marine education and other teaching materials published by public institutions under the Ministry, including the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, to be used for various education activities.
